adidas Drops Bob Marley Gazelles: A Tribute to the Reggae Icon’s Favorite Sport
adidas has officially unveiled a fresh take on the iconic Gazelle—a high-profile collaboration with the estate of Bob Marley. The drop was timed to celebrate the reggae legend’s birthday on February 6, as reported by Hypebeast.
The pair retails for $110, a solid price point for a piece of music history. The upper is crafted from premium mustard-toned suede, while the signature three stripes feature a muted green with a thin red border, perfectly capturing that Rasta aesthetic without being over the top.
"The Gazelle has moved beyond its athletic roots to become a cultural staple, much like Marley’s music," notes a style editor at GQ. "It’s the ultimate canvas for heritage storytelling in the modern streetwear era."
The sole comes in a matte ivory finish with the classic Gazelle textured grip. White laces and a bright yellow tongue provide a sharp contrast, while the red insoles add a hidden pop of color. The real main character energy comes from the embossed patch on the turquoise leather heel: it features a portrait of Bob Marley and the phrase “Football Is Freedom”—a direct nod to his legendary passion for soccer (or football, as the rest of the world calls it).

Structurally, these are the classic Gazelles we know and love. The custom patch and unique color palette are the primary updates, but considering the Gazelle is currently enjoying a massive renaissance in the fashion world, the design feels incredibly timely rather than lazy.
This isn’t the Three Stripes’ first time honoring the "One Love" singer. The German sportswear giant has released several heaters in the past. For instance, earlier in 2024, they launched the Bob Marley x adidas SL 72 “One Love” (featuring a sleek black upper, Bob’s portrait on the tongue, and his signature in gold).
Marley’s influence extends deep into the American lifestyle, particularly his relationship with Levi’s. The brand officially recognizes him as a style icon, specifically for his legendary “denim on denim” fits. In 2023, as part of the Bob Marley: LEGACY documentary series, Forbes highlighted how designers analyzed his wardrobe to recreate his timeless look. You can even find custom vintage Levi’s jackets and shirts with Marley iconography on high-end resale markets.
Even though Bob Marley tragically passed away in 1981, his aura remains unmatched, resonating with Gen Z and older fans alike. He continues to be a vibe for anyone who appreciates authenticity.
Notably, adidas is leaning into Marley’s love for soccer rather than just the typical reggae tropes. It’s well-documented that Marley’s obsession with the sport was so profound that he famously refused a toe amputation following a soccer injury—a decision that ultimately contributed to his passing, as he chose to stay true to his beliefs and his love for the game.
